1. We like the models that you have to offer, but there are a few minor changes we would like to make to the model we select. Can you help us?

Regardless of whether a modification is major or minor, we can accommodate you.

Some homebuyers find the existing Pickett Home floor plans very appealing but want to make minor modifications to turn it into the home of their dreams. Other homebuyers have a specific floor plan in mind that they want us to design from scratch.

In the initial stages of the process, David Toth, our computer-assisted design (CAD) specialist, sits down with you to find out what you want in a home. Once David understands your wants and needs, he can make alterations to existing plans or draw up an entirely different blue print — often able to show you “instant” design modifications on the computer screen even as you continue your consultation.

2. Once we’ve signed a contract to have a Pickett home built, how soon will we be able to close?

On average it takes 6 months to build a home from start to finish. Once the frame is built (which takes about a month) we are required to get approval from the city building inspector to continue the process. Once the inspector has given his seal of approval, it takes another four months.

3. As you are building our home, is it okay to stop by as frequently as we like to check on your progress?

Customers that want to stop by their future home during the building process can do so by making an appointment with their realtor to see the house.

For the safety of all parties, we ask that you do not walk around the construction site unattended. To tour the construction site, please call your representative to arrange a meeting after construction hours (5:00 pm). As can be expected, there are numerous hazards present during the construction of a new home, some of which may cause serious injury or even death.

If you have any questions during your visit, you can direct them to the staff located at our model home.

4. Can I select my own plumbing and lighting directly from a retailer/wholesaler?

Yes. We have a preferred list of suppliers who can help you select your plumbing and lighting. We have agreements with these suppliers to get great prices and warranties on the products they sell to us.

5. If we decide we want to upgrade something in our new home after you have started building, can you accommodate our request?

Upgrades can be made once the building process has begun. So you aren’t surprised about change order charges, we inform you about what these change-order rates are at the time they sign the contract.

In the contract, there is an addendum that notes there is a $50 per item change-order fee on purchases such as a change of carpet selection. There is a $175 change-order fee if you want to make a change that requires changing the blueprints.
