1. Tour of Our Model Home
Whether you are visiting the Pickett Homes model in Ellerslie for the first time with your realtor or alone, a representative will be available to answer any initial questions you may have. If you're more comfortable walking through the model independently, feel free to roam. If you would like a guided tour, one of our representatives will be happy to provide it. This way, you control the pace of your initial visit and gather your impressions without any outside pressure. And whenever you have questions, we're there to answer them.

2. Information Package
If you think you might be interested in letting us build your dream home, please talk to one of our representatives so we can do an initial evaluation of your wants and needs and the type of home you’d like to build. From this initial evaluation, we can determine if there is a Pickett Homes model that matches your needs. Before you go home to think about your decision, we’ll provide you with an information package to review.

3. Initial Planning Session with Home Designer
You’ve made the decision that you want to build a Pickett home and found a model that you like. Now it’s time to customize the floor plan to make sure your new home will be built exactly the way you want it.

Working with our consumer representatives and home designer during this planning session, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Evaluate the floor plan with the home designer offering your likes and dislikes
  • Inform Pickett Homes of any upgrades you’d like to make on your new home
  • Through computer assisted design (CAD), customize the interior by moving walls, doors and plumbing to make the interior more suitable to your lifestyle while also customizing the exterior to reflect your personality
  • Get professional recommendations about whether the customization you’d like done is practical or not
  • Get a revised quote on the price of your home with these customized changes

4. Contract
Once you’ve made final decisions about how you want your home to look and have come to an agreement on the price, it is time to make the agreement official through a signed contract between both parties.

5. Selection Meeting with Interior Designer
For some people, choosing the color of carpet, walls or appliances can be among the most difficult decisions to make when buying a home. Because we have an interior decorator on staff, we make the selection process as stress-free as possible.

During the selection process you will have an opportunity to:

  • See most of the things that you can choose from in a one-room setting
  • Evaluate your choices based on your likes and dislikes
  • Make decisions based on your preferences with the assistance of a professional interior decorator
  • Visit our preferred vendors to select appliances, plumbing and lighting if you are interested in upgrading any of those items
  • Walk away knowing that you’ve made decisions that will match up to your tastes and lifestyle

6. Pre-Drywall Walk Through
Before we even put the drywall up, we request that you visit your home to inspect the framework. Even though all Pickett Homes go through an internal and external inspection process before we hang the drywall, we want you to have peace of mind that you are buying a durable home.

7. Preclosing New Home Orientation
Usually two to three days prior to closing, we will walk through your new home with you to make sure that it is everything you dreamed it would be. Although we do everything in our means to make sure that the construction is as flawless as possible, you may find areas that need improvement. As we walk through your new home with you, we’ll make a list of items that need to be improved or adjusted. During the 48 hours prior to closing, we will make sure everything you have asked us to correct or improve is completed.

8. Closing
Closing is when you officially become an owner of a new Pickett home. We promise you that at a closing with Pickett Homes, it will be a great experience, not a nightmare.

9. 60-Day “Punch” List
Once you have had an opportunity to spend some quality time in your new home, you may notice areas that have minor flaws or need adjustment. In our opinion, there isn’t such a thing as a minor flaw and we think you’d agree. Something is either right or wrong. We encourage you to include these “wrongs” on your 60 day punch list so we can make them “right.”

10. 1-Year “Punch” List
By the first anniversary of living in your new home, you will most likely know it inside and out. Please include a list of any problems you experience on your one-year punch list. Once we’ve been presented with this list, we will arrange a convenient time with you to address any problems.
