After serving as operations manager for the Lexington Center, Bill Pickett
started building homes with a partner in 1989. Then, in 1991, he ventured
out on his own and founded Pickett Homes.
As business quickly grew, Bills wife Barbie left her position as manager
of the furniture and design department at Kinnaird & Francke in 1993
to join her husband full time.
Today, Pickett Homes is building in the Stuart Hall and Ellerslie subdivisions with homes priced from $275,000 - $500,000.

In-house Designer
Pickett Homes staff includes in-house designer David Toth, who provides
computer-assisted design service to customize floor plans and change other
details at customers requests.
Meanwhile, owners Bill and Barbie remain hands on in their attention to
detail. Bill oversees the construction process while Barbie assists homebuyers
in selection of interior options such as carpeting and countertops.
Bill Named Homebuilders Association President
Bill was named president of the Home Builders Association of Lexington
for 2002.
One of his goals was to make local starter homes more affordable for people
still on the bottom rung of the home buying ladder. There is not
a concerted effort to advocate for those people who want to purchase safe,
decent and affordable housing, Bill told the Lexington Herald-Leader.
So we are going to be advocates for those people.
'An Intensity That's Impressive'
Bill has more good ideas than anyone Ive met, a former
HBAL executive director told the Herald-Leader. He has an
intensity and love for this business that is impressive.
That same spirit of community service and responsibility is what both
Bill and Barbie bring to Pickett Homes and remains the key to their
history of success.
